CELEBRATIONS FESTIVALS in SOUTH KOREA!!!

1. Jeju Fire Festival

This is happened during the month of March 12th to 15th in Jeju Island. The beautiful city of Jeju is set ablaze to pray for and welcome the new year with good health, happiness, and ample harvest. It symbolizes the ancient ritual of burning old grass to get rid of vermin before resuming the next farming season.


2. Jinju Lantern Festival

One of the oldest festivals in Korea, that showcases the country’s traditions and culture. is a spectacular light display with lantern workshops and exhibitions to commemorate those that lost their lives during the Jinjuseong Battle of 1592. This tradition continued long after the battle and transformed into what we witness today, as a memorable lantern festival that is both beautifully entertaining and honourable in its significance. This is happened during the month of February.


3. Seongsan Sunrise Festival

Welcoming the first day of the New Year, Seongsan Sunrise Festival features a natural festival aiming to spread the natural values of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, a UNESCO World Nature Heritage Site, to see the old year out and the new year in, and to share the traditional culture and artistic themed-tourism among visitors. Residents and tourists from all over the country will be invited to the sunrise at Jeju Island, the island of peace.


4. Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival- The main event of the festival, ice fishing, takes place on the frozen Hwacheoncheon Stream. Ice fishing is only possible when the stream has frozen to at least 2 meters thick, although the water is clear enough to see the bottom of the stream. In order for all guests to enjoy the fun and unique experience of ice fishing, thousands of sancheoneo (ice trout) are released into the stream every day of the festival. This festival happened during the month of January to February.


5. Gwangju World Culture Kimchi Festival

This is happened during the month of October 25th to 27th. As one of the renowned food festivals in Korea, Gwangju World Culture Kimchi Festival features various activities related to kimchi. From kimchi-making competition, painting to Kimchi master contest and cooking classes; everything there is delightful and exciting.
